International Kissing Day - 6th July

IT STARTED WITH A KISS....

JUST SHUT UP & KISS ME!

A kiss can be one of the most magical experiences ever and not just reserved solely for the face; there are plenty of places on the body to plant one on!

A kiss can be described using so many different words and it is something that can mean so many things depending on what type of kiss it is and who it’s coming from.

Every kiss offers a special connection whether it’s a kiss of friendship, passion or a warm greeting, it sends out strong vibes and makes lasting memories.

It is said that a kiss is the expression of our souls which is why there are so many options to choose from. You will kiss your lover much differently than that of a dear friend.

Kissing, like all arts, is a highly personal expression of feeling, and its interpretation is subjective.

Are you a good kisser?

Well that depends on whom you ask; truthfully, there are just as many ways to do it as there are people.

Nevertheless, kisses tend to fall into a few common categories and it is important to understand the art and meaning of lip locking.

So, here's a guide to the major types of kisses and what they mean

The Peck

A peck is usually a quick and casual kiss.  It’s a quick lip-on-lip contact which can be suggestive that there could be much more smooching on the horizon.

The Long Peck

The extended peck can follow on from the peck or be known in its own right and is usually followed by a knowing smirk and, sometimes, an audible "mmmm”.

The Woodpecker

A rapid-fire of pecks are playful indicating how much you like someone conveying a lot of affection without allowing things to get too hot and heavy.

The Cheek Kiss

The cheek kiss is exactly what it sounds like: a closed-mouth peck against someone's cheek.

It is a non-controversial, healthy way of saying hello or goodbye to loved ones and can be planted by anyone who is near and dear to you.

It's often the first way couples kiss one another just to test the waters and can sometimes dictate to whether more intimate ways of kissing are discovered.

The Forehead Kiss

A kiss on the forehead is a gentle expression of admiration.

Usually it is a kiss of friendship or a starter kiss for something for romantic later.

Kiss on the Hand

A chivalrous move showing both admiration and passion.

The Eskimo Kiss

In an Eskimo kiss, two people close their eyes and rub their noses back and forth against each other.

It evolved from the kunik, a traditional Inuit greeting which was a way of people greeting each other when only their faces were exposed due to cold weather.

This isn't a sexual kiss; it's more of a playful acknowledgment of affection and friendship.

The French Kiss

The French Kiss is the king of kisses involving plenty of tongue action. Open-mouthed and whilst not easy to master, it derives from pure adulterated passion, romance and desire, so part of the trick is to just go with the flow and be led by your emotions.

It's a delicate dance of a kiss, with one important thing to remember; Take your cue from your partner. Don't be too aggressive or too meek. The idea is to gently explore an area of the body that's filled with nerve endings and engage all five senses.

But due to its complexities more than one description is required:

a) Standard French Kiss.

By moving your open lips against each other with some tongue interplay gets the hormones racing.

b) Tongue Tango French Kiss.

An elegant ballet of tongue play, the Tongue Tango occurs when the tips of the tongues push off from each other and twist around.   It is a kiss that says "I think outside the box in and out of bed"

However, this smooch is a close relative of the dreaded Lizard Kiss, where tongues dart in a stabbing, lizard-like motion.

This type of kiss is creepy and not recommended for the faint hearted!

Just to confirm what a lizard kiss is If you've ever seen a lizard trying to catch flies, you know what this one's all about.

It’s when a tongue flicks in and out of your partner's mouth in tight, quick strokes.

It is really a silly kiss which can be trialled purely for fun otherwise, it can come across as eerily odd and is not recommended apart from in jest!

c) Help I’m being eaten sort of French Kiss.

This particular kiss leaves the recipient with a saliva beard.

The kisser opens their mouth as wide as possible, rolls their tongue all around and down your throat and then, bizarrely slides it all over your face. Weird alert …..

Secret Message Kiss

This is when lovers send erotic messages while French kissing, so others don’t know about it. It’s for two people that are very close to each other.

In the middle of a French kiss, spell out a secret message with the tip of your tongue against your partner's. It might feel a little funny but trying to figure out your message can be fun for her—and a subtle, sensual way of telling her something.

Single Lip Kiss

A subtle single lip kiss is where you suck and sandwich their lip between yours at the same time.

This is a suggestive kiss that confirms you are very into them.

To give someone a single-lip kiss, gently suck or tug on their lip. It's an awfully romantic kiss, and if you do it right, you'll send tingles up and down your sweetie's spine.

Earlobe Kiss

Known to be one of the most romantic and intimate kisses between lovers.  This all-encompassing kiss targets an erogenous zone.  Gently kiss or nibble the ear on the earlobes.

This is one to perform while you're taking a break from lip kisses.  For a bit of variety and more of an intense earlobe kiss, add a little bit of tongue, or use a gentle sucking motion on this sensitive area.

A sensual experience, to be sure where a kiss is not only felt but every sound heard.

Butterfly Kiss

To give someone a butterfly kiss, you have to get close enough so that the tips of your eyelashes are touching.  Then blink very quickly, making your eyelashes flutter together like butterfly wings.

This kind of kiss and its intimate gesture is for those madly infatuated or in love.

It's a fun, cute thing to do while you're catching your breath from more traditional kisses. You can also give someone a solo butterfly kiss by fluttering your eyelids against a cheek.

The Upside Down Kiss

It involves kissing someone whose face is upside-down from yours. Your top lip meets their bottom lip and vice versa. It's an unexpected twist that can literally turn a snog on its head.

The Lingering Kiss

A lingering kiss entails a lot of lip to lip kissing for long periods of time. It’s full of intense emotion and passion and is often reserved for new love.

“Leave a Mark” Kiss

Also known as the lipstick kiss where a girl puts lipstick on and kisses her partner on the cheek, neck or lips. This is usually just a playful gesture.

The Air Kiss

Air Kisses are very popular done by giving out a “Mwaah” in the air beside someone’s cheek.

Sometimes it’s done on both cheeks and is seen as a non-romantic but friendly gesture.

Kiss of an Angel

This is a sweet, tender, romantic way to wake someone up, say goodbye, ease some crying, or otherwise show deep caring.

This is a gentle kiss on someone’s eyelids, a sensitive, thin-skinned part of the face, where emotions come through loud and clear.

Seductive Kiss

Much like a subtle French kiss (less tongues though). A kiss to win someone’s heart and seduce them and guaranteed to make anyone’s knees weak.

The Bite and Nibble

Subtle bites and nibbles on certain parts of a person’s facial features such as the nose, cheeks, chin with a kiss eventually landing on the neck.

A deeply sensual kiss between lovers and exudes intimacy and eroticism.

The Jaw Kiss

A kiss for those that are already intimate and very close to each other; gentle and yet incredibly sensual.

The Vampire Kiss

This sexy kiss on the neck includes sucking and even a bit of biting. Some people find it painful rather than sexy, and the sucking might leave a love bite so always ask permission before you give someone a vampire kiss or make sure you stock up on toothpaste!

The Big Tease

Where you tease your partner exploring their body with your lips starting from the forehead and making your way all the way down.

A very invested method of foreplay dedicated to lovers.

The Biting Kiss

The biting kiss is a more aggressive form of the French kiss. Like the French kiss, it's open-mouthed and incorporates tongue, but as you pull back, your teeth lightly grab onto your lovers tongue for just a second. Try it once and see how your partner responds. Some people love it, but others think it's painful or weird.

The Neck Kiss

After French kissing for a while, some people mix it up by trailing the mouth down and "Frenching" the other person's neck.

To execute a neck kiss perfectly, go light on the saliva, focus on the motion of your lips, never stay in one place for very long, and never suck hard enough to leave a mark.

The Breath Kiss

To do it, open your mouth, inhale deeply and lock lips (like you're performing CPR). Slowly exhale into their mouth while their inhaling, passing your breath to them. Without moving, slowly inhale while your partner exhales. Keep passing the breath back and forth until one of you runs out of breath, passes out (jokes) or you both erupt in giggles.

The Love Kiss

Finally, the love kiss is any kiss using any method that you give while thinking tender, loving thoughts about your partner.

You might not realise it, but your kissing style is influenced by whatever's on your mind. Smooching with love on your mind will make your kisses extra soft and sweet.

Whether it's on your partner's mouth, neck, ear, or forehead, the love kiss is the most romantic kiss you can give, imbued with emotion and passion.

Simply close your eyes, think of what attracts, intrigues, and moves you about this person and do what comes naturally.

Happy Kissing!
