A POSITIVE ATTITUDE LEADS TO A POSITIVE OUTCOME!
Tomorrow is the 30th April, but it’s not any old day, as this is the day that the national will celebrate and congratulate Captain Tom on reaching his 100th birthday! A massive HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAPTAIN TOM MOORE and thank you once again for your inspiring actions and words which have provided some much needed good news during this coronavirus pandemic.
He has won the hearts of the nation and become a beacon of hope with his bid to raise money for NHS staff before he reached this fabulous age and he has raised the most money ever doing an individual charity walk.
This unstoppable war veteran has raised over £29 million for the NHS after completing 100 laps of his garden with the aid of a walking frame before vowing to keep on walking while people are still donating via his just giving page (see below for link) and has remained a man of his word! It has been a challenge which has captured the admiration of the nation.
His original itinerary to walk 100 laps of the 25-metre (82ft) loop in his garden in Marston Moretaine, in 10-lap chunks was is one of the reasons his story quickly spread beyond his local community, with donations beginning to flood in from people across the country. He completed this mission on the morning of April 16th.
Having received good care from the NHS personally in the past, here was a man determined to support the NHS during these particularly challenging times. Along his media journey, he has always acknowledged and sent messages of thanks aimed directly at medical staff and key workers expressing that they are doing a marvellous, marvellous job.
The tributes have poured in and he was mentioned and focused upon in Boris Johnsons first address to the nation after returning to office from recovering from Covid-19.
A mural has been created in Tamworth, West Midlands by artist Graffiti depicting the pensioner’s smiling face, his walking frame, British soldiers and featuring the NHS logo dedicated to Captain Tom.
The Royal Mail have honoured Captain Tom with a special postmark stamping all letters with a special message saying: "Happy 100th Birthday Captain Thomas Moore NHS fundraising hero 30th April 2020 for everything posted between 26 April and 1 May .
He has rocked the charts and his single, a version of Youll Never Walk Alone hit number 1 making him the oldest ever person to get a number one single in the UK charts.
He has received more than 125,000 cards from well-wishers across the globe which pupils past and present have spent 1,750 hours opening each card and creating a display in Bedford School's Great Hall and weather permitting, his 100th birthday will be marked by an RAF flypast with the special Battle of Britain Memorial Flight carrying out an aerial salute for him.
The public continues tp campaign for this former Guard of Honour of the First Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment to receive a knighthood from the Queen so wouldnt it be lovely if there was an invitation to the palace once normality returns as well a that special telegraph.
